STAMP PACKETS

When members receive a packet they should first check that the number of books agrees with the figure shown on the circulation list. When they examine the books they should keep an eye out for blank spaces i.e. those from which stamps have been removed without being signed for. These should be marked in the book and notified to the office on the advice note. The last member who has not done this is responsible for the cost of a missing stamp.

 
  • Each space from which a stamp is bought must be signed legibly or, preferably, stamped with a rubber stamp bearing the buyer's name. The total purchases from the book are transferred to the cover and the totals for each book bought from are listed on an advice note. The packet must then be carefully wrapped to withstand the rigours of the postal system and posted by second-class mail. A certificate of posting must be obtained.

  • Members must not keep the packet for more than three working days and will have to pay a fine of 5p per day for each extra day they hold the packet.

  • Occasionally a member may be able to pass the packet on by hand. He/she must obtain a signature from the receiving member in the appropriate space on the advice note as a receipt.

  • Having posted or handed over the packet the member must then send the advice note, the certificate of posting if relevant and a remittance for his/her purchases to the NPS office within 24 hours. Remittances for purchases of not more than £2 can he made in mint decimal GB postage stamps.
